Salt Lake City

Up early this morning.  4 AM!  Flew to Chicago and then to Salt Lake City.  Carol, Tom and family hadn't been there so we explored Temple Square.  Summer is not ideal for exploration outdoors in Salt Lake.  The temperature crossed into the triple digit area.

Summer is endless!

Temple Square features many very interesting buildings.  There is the Mormon Temple, which we cannot go in to visit.  No objection.  Just pointing it out.

Behind the Temple you can see the Tabernacle of Mormon Tabernacle Choir fame. Built to create a specific sound, under the guidance of Brigham Young, it is the scene of many musical performances as well as a place of worship.  Anyone can visit the Tabernacle.  Still decked out from their Fourth of July performance, the Tabernacle is air conditioned.

The first house of worship on the site is what is now known as the Assembly Hall.  One of the women touring with us wanted to know why it has a Star of David on it.  Our missionary guides were not sure of the answer.

Anyone is welcome inside the Assembly Hall.

The grounds around Temple Square are immaculate and the groundskeepers must work non-stop to keep it looking so colorful in the heat of the summer.

When we had enough of the heat we got in our cars and drove to Idaho Falls, where I am posting this.  In the morning we head to the Grand Tetons.
